Let’s start with ten simple steps on how to support your friend’s small business for free. Because boosting a business (and a friendship) does not have to involve cash.
Firstly, ENGAGE with their posts on social media. It only takes a second to do as you scroll, and that tiny action can create a butterfly effect. When a post receives engagement it is shown to more people. Your engagement could be the reason a new client comes across the post and purchases a product or invests in their services.
LIKE, COMMENT & SHARE. These are three simple ways to engage on social media. Make a routine out of giving a quick like and take a few extra seconds to leave a thoughtful comment if you love the post. If you’re also trying to grow your brand this can benefit you too as people see your comment and get curious as to who you are. Lastly, share it on your page or stories and tag the account. This last one will drive more eyes to them as your own friends and followers will know you like and trust the account.
SAVE THE POST. You can do this in the bottom right corner on Instagram or the top right corner on Facebook. When a post is saved it indicates that it is high quality and that you plan to revisit it because of its value. The more value there is in a post the more it gets shown to others.
TAG A FRIEND and tell them why you love the person, page, product or service. This is one of my favourite ways to introduce someone to something that I perceive will benefit them. Word of mouth is everything and connecting people is fun.
WRITE A POSITIVE REVIEW on their Facebook page, website, and Google. If you have interacted with that person and their service or purchased a product and had a positive experience, let them know. Social proof could be the decider if someone purchases from them or not. The more positive reviews they have, the more likely it will be that a new customer will buy from them.
VISIT THEIR WEBSITE. This is particularly important if your friend’s business relies heavily on free content that they produce such as blog posts. Simply put, the more views a website or article receives, the higher it can rank. This can mean increased ad revenue or earn through any affiliate links.
SUBSCRIBE to their email list and Youtube channel, and follow their Facebook page, Instagram, Twitter, Tik Tok, and any other socials they may have. After that, I love how easy this makes it to show support if any of their content pops up in my feed… and it makes their numbers look better too.
SEND a message of support to bolster their confidence. You know as well as I do how good it feels when you receive a love-filled message that inspires you to keep moving your business forward. These can sadly be few and far between. I challenge you to send one to someone now and make their day.
If you have any other tips, I would love to see you add them in the comments.
